PrismDesk Privacy Policy

Effective 14 October 2026 / 発効日 2026 年 10 月 14 日

Who we are

PrismDesk is developed and published by Masato Okumura (奥村 真智), a sole proprietor trading as "async0x4c", based in Tokyo, Japan ("we", "us"). Contact: [email protected].

For the purposes of the EU/UK GDPR and the Japanese Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), we are the controller for the limited data described in sections 2 and 3.

1. The PrismDesk apps do not collect your data

The PrismDesk Windows host application, the PrismDesk virtual display driver, the PrismDesk virtual camera and the PrismDesk Android client do not collect, store or transmit personal data to us or to any third party.

Android permissions

Permission Why the app asks for it
Camera To read the connection QR code shown by the Windows host, and — only if you turn the feature on — to send your device's camera to the PC as a virtual webcam.
Internet, network state, Wi-Fi state, multicast, nearby Wi-Fi devices To find your PC on the local network and to exchange video, audio and input with it.
Notifications, foreground service, wake lock To keep the session running and show its status while the app is in the background.

The app does not request location, contacts, storage or microphone permissions, and does not use any permission to determine your location.

The QR code is decoded on your device with Google's ML Kit barcode-scanning library in its bundled, on-device form. Your camera images never leave your device: Google's terms state that "processing of the input data (e.g. images, video, text) fully happens on-device, and ML Kit does not send that data and the resultant outputs to Google servers."

ML Kit does, however, send usage metrics to Google. This happens whenever the scanner runs, it is part of the library, and we cannot switch it off. According to Google, these metrics are limited to:

Google states that it uses this data "to measure performance, debug, maintain and improve the APIs, and detect misuse or abuse", that it encrypts the data in transit over HTTPS, and that it does not transfer it to third parties. We never see it. We do not enable ML Kit's auto-zoom feature, so the additional scan-session data Google associates with that feature is not collected either.

ML Kit is governed by Google's terms (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms, last updated 14 May 2025) and its data disclosure (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure).

2. Purchases are processed by our merchant of record

PrismDesk Pro licences are sold by Polar Software, Inc. ("Polar"), who is the seller and merchant of record and an independent controller of the personal data you provide at checkout (name, email address, billing country, payment details). Polar's privacy policy: https://polar.sh/legal/privacy

Polar shares with us your name, email address, country, order ID and licence key, so that we can deliver the licence and provide support. Legal basis: performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in supporting our customers.

We keep this information for as long as your licence is valid, and afterwards for 7 years as required by Japanese tax and bookkeeping law.

3. Support and the optional newsletter

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Our website

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes connection data, including IP addresses, as our processor in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, no client-side storage and no fingerprinting, and does not collect personal data. We therefore do not display a cookie banner. Cloudflare serves this site, and Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled for it.

5. International transfers

We are based in Japan. If you are in the EEA or the UK, the personal data described in sections 2 and 3 is transferred to Japan. Japan has an adequacy decision from the European Commission and from the UK, so no additional safeguard is required for that transfer. Our processors (Polar, Cloudflare and our email provider) apply their own transfer mechanisms, described in their privacy policies.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Email [email protected]; we answer within 30 days.

You may also complain to your data-protection authority: your national authority in the EEA, the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (https://ico.org.uk/), or the Personal Information Protection Commission in Japan (https://www.ppc.go.jp/).
